Essentially a lease is a legally binding contract that sets out the rights and obligations of the owner of property (known as the landlord or lessor) and a third party that has agreed to occupy or use the property (known as the tenant or lessee) for a set term.
For commercial reasons, it is often the case that a landlord will engage a property manager to act as their agent in managing a lease. This formal engagement is commonly set out in a contract and involves the property manager standing in the shoes of the landlord and dealing with the tenant.
